New shortsea carrier

A new intra-European shortsea company is soon to be created through a joint venture between Maersk and sister company Safmarine. It is understood that the new company – whose name is yet to be revealed – will in-charter container ships and use Maersk’s boxes to make inroads into the shortsea and reefer markets. Currently, Maersk’s share of the intra-European shortsea market is around 6% but CEO Eivind Kolding says he aims to double that percentage.
